Do you have a classroom blog?

Hey everyone,

I have been going back and forth for a few weeks now about whether or not to start a blog for my classroom.  A blog that will give parents up-to-date information about what is going on in our classroom, more than our weekly newsletter usually gives, and a chance to allow students to "blog" about what they are learning.  I teach 2nd grade and didn't know if this was something my students would be able to do with minimal help, when I would find time to let a student or two blog each day about their learning, and if it would be beneficial for students and their parents.  So I wanted to get your thoughts on it.  Do you have a classroom blog?  Do you post things daily as well as have students post about their learning or what you're doing in class?  How do you find time to let a couple of students post on the blog?

I would LOVE any ideas, comments, your thoughts on this.

Thanks!

  1. I have a classroom blog and I teach second grade! I just started it in February so we haven't done a whole lot. So far, two kids have blogged about their weekend with our guinea pigs and another about Family Fitness Week. It's been slow going because I really want to do it right. Parents and students seem super excited about it so I'm happy. I can't wait for next year so we can start right away. I'm using Edublogs because it seemed to offer more control. If you decide to go with it, we should communicate with each other. There's nothing like a real audience to motivate learning!

  2. I have one, but I'm the only one who posts. I think it's a GREAT tool to keep parents informed, and I have received several comments from parents about how much they enjoy it. It takes me anywhere from 5-10 minutes to post and I do it Monday-Thursday (although there have been weeks it wasn't that frequent). I say go for it! :)

    1. Thanks for the info. I think I'll give it a try! Maybe instead of the kids actually typing things on it, they can write about what they learned today and I'll pick one to type or something. Or maybe I'll just post things :). That may be easier for the rest of this year!

      P.S.- Keep us updated! :)
